Default My car feels strange in vtec.

When I hit 6K in vtec, in 3rd gear or higher the car feels incredibly underpowered throughout the entire rev from 6K +

Once I hit vtec, right at 6k in my 01 AP1, the car feels like it's losing power and doesn't sound like it always did. I checked my oil level, and it's bang on where it should be.

Does anyone have any insight into this, as to what it might even be? It seems very odd to me.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Thats weird. Its where the engine produces the most power and feels the most responsive.

Are you positive you weren't low on fuel when you tried this?

Could your tires be worn out or the environment in such a condition that would respond negatively to torque changes/power increase?

i think the vtec celinoid might be stuck, try given her, because if you dont use your vtec often it can get clogged up.

Check your air filter and try the map whack. Maybe even reset the ECU.

That's the thing, I use vtec on a minute to minute basis, every day. My car is in vtec, more than it's not. lol

I have a CAI on there now, so i'll check the filter. As far as the "MAP wack" what exactly is the procedure for this? Care to elaborate a bit more, so I know what exactly I need to do and what part it is that I need to do it to?

You're right, it's very weird. I definately was not low on fuel, it's been ongoing this past week at no matter what level my fuel is at. My tires also are fine, they definately are not playing a role in this.

My CAT started rattling a few weeks ago, and has been getting worse. Honda is covering it under warranty and are replacing it next Tuesday. I believe the baffles broke inside of it, and are rattling around. The car worked fine for the last few weeks while the CAT has been an issue all along, but only as of lately the car has been feeling extremely strange at 6k when vtec engages. Hopefully it is due to my CAT issues, but where the car was working fine all during this time I was having the issues with the bunked up CAT, and now all of a sudden this has been happening i'm not sure what it could be.

Did you have the cat replaced yet? I had an aftermarket cat fall in on itself in my h22a swapped accord and down low you couldnt really tell but as soon as it hit vtec it would bog down and not go anywhere. One day as it was bogging down it just went BOOOM, as it shot thousands of peices of cat out of the tail pipe. After that it ran completly normal. If you are already having problems with your cat, I would check that first then the map.

Honda is replacing my cat this coming Tuesday, of next week. I'll hold off until then before I do any investigating into this vtec issue. The cat has been getting worse and worse it seems over the last few weeks, as the rattling is becoming louder and louder so i'm assuming it's alot more clogged as of lately than it was a few weeks ago when i first noticed the problem.

Thanks for the info, sounds to me like this may be the issue causing what I think to be another issue with my Vtec.

Come back to me vtec, I miss you. hehe
