Default Is it my diff?

My car started making a weird noise this morning. It is a whining, loud noise. It is audible at very low speeds, and at highway speeds. At higher speed, the noise is louder and faster, as it seems to be rotational (if that makes sense). When you go really slow, like coming to a stop, it sounds like a metal-on-metal, almost like a gear meshing... badly. It will NOT make the noise in reverse.

- I replaced my rear hubs & wheel bearings just about a year ago.

- Had the clicking noise (axle nuts) just recently and seemed to fix it by retorquing the nuts. I'll still hear a light, swooshing sound once in a while.

- Maybe what I thought was the axle nuts for the last few months making noise, was actually the diff (or?) going bad all this time?

Me and a buddy are going to jack the car up today and see if we can find anything. I know it needs to be looked at, but thought I might get some advice or tips by posting this.

Thanks

I didn't mention it, but my brake dust shield cover (pass. rear) seems loose too. I almost thought it was just that dust shield causing my noise, but it's not. I'll make sure to inspect the brakes though. thanks man.

While I was jacking it up and removing the rear wheels, I noticed that the driver side wheel had free play. After removing the wheel, the rotor is loose, and the axle feels loose where it connects to the ... HUB!

I need a new hub/wheel bearing. I guess it could be worse though.
