Here is the deal: The Honda S2000 filter is made differently and I am not speaking about how much oil can move through it. The rubber gasket is sandwiched between two steel rings that mate with the surface on the engine that accepts the filter. That is why everyone is anal about following Honda's direction on proper torque for the filters. The old hand tight 3/4 of a turn will NOT work for this filter and application. You can do it that way but you expose yourself to the number one cause of S2000 engine fires: oil leaks from loose filters. You have to use a wrench to crank it down as the directions state and that means the metal rings seat on the engine to prevent it's movement.

An ordinary filter is seated by just the squashed rubber ring. That can work, and has worked, for a ton of cars over many years. However, it does not work on the S2000. You can go to an auto parts store and they will give you a filter that will physically fit. It will NOT have the 2 metal rings to ensure a secure installation. You might get away with a standard auto filter and 3/4 of a turn without an issue. However, Honda made the filters this way for a reason. It is like Dirty Harry asking: "So, do you feel lucky?"

The filter on the left (port side for the Navy) is the Honda filter for the S2000. You can see the two metal rings with the center gasket. On the starboard, or right, is an ordinary K&N filter with just a gasket.

Thx for suggestion to view previous posts. See https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-un...ersion-192750/ which indicates smaller Honda filters not recommended for the S2K.

No one here recommends the ordinary Honda filter for our engines. Honda however, official line is its an acceptable substitute.

So a Honda dealer can and will sell you the 'wrong' one. And Honda corp would be ok with it.

I bought mine four years ago, a 2000 with 80k miles. It was neglected, sat for a while, and was owned by a liar/moron. As a result, I've done a huge amount of "small jobs" to bring it up to my standards. Still in progress... I hope you have a better time with yours.

ENGINE
Oil change, crush washer + filter (7/8 turn or 15-18 lb-ft)
Air filter (Honda OEM)
Cabin air filter (Honda OEM)
Coolant flush (Honda Type 2 blue coolant)
Replace PCV valve (Honda OEM)
New battery
Replace accessory belt, idler and tensioner pulley bearings
Clean MAP sensor, add zip tie to MAP sensor
Replace timing chain tensioner (Billman)
Replace spark plugs, spark plug tube seals, valve cover gasket
Replace valve spring retainers (AP2, intake only), adjust valves
Replace cracked intake tube
Clean IACV and replace IACV gasket
Replace VTEC solenoid gaskets and o-ring (Honda and Kraken)

TRANSMISSION/DRIVETRAIN
Transmission fluid change, Honda MTF
Rear diff fluid change
Clutch fluid change
Brake fluid change
Replace missing clutch release fork boot, re-grease fork
Regrease shifter, rebuild with new plastic parts and spring
Adjust clutch pedal free-play

SUSPENSION/STEERING
Replace front lower balljoints (creaking)
Replace EPS torque sensor
Replace 4 shocks, Koni Sport (yellow) adjustable
Spoon rigid subframe collars + 12 new OEM subframe bolts

New tires: Continental ExtremeContact Sport

SOFT TOP
De-burr soft top frame
Replace soft top elastic straps (Modifry)
Fix tear in soft top
Fix fogged/yellowed rear window
Fix rattling soft top latches
Fix soft top seal at windshield header (installed hardtop strikers)

INTERIOR
Replace missing key fob

EXTERIOR
Fix loose side mirrors

STILL ON THE LIST, NOT DONE YET:
Replace spare tire (25 years old)
Replace missing key
Doors don't unlock with fobs
Clean soft top drains
Replace alternator recictifier (flickering dash)
Cruise control turns off over bumps (brake/clutch pedal sensors too sensitive)
Doesn't idle correctly. Bounces from 800-1000

Replace spare tire (25 years old).
Mine is "merely" 18 years old! Got a part number or source for a new one?

Last time I was at a tire shop, I asked if they could order and mount new spares on the original rim. They said yes, but I didn't ask about the S2000 tire specifically.

Unrelated, I hope this doesn't turn into another oil filter thread. Too much discussion about it already. New people should be made aware of it, but if they're too stupid to follow advice (many are, "I can tighten it by hand hurr durr"), more advice is not the answer. Use the correct Honda 15400-PCX-306 filter and torque it to 7/8 turn or 15-18 lb-ft. Done.

nice list. Not too different from what I went through when I first got mine. Do you have any prices associated with the work/parts you’ve done?

seems like that could be useful.
