MY04 + filter on a stick
I just replaced my R&M Racing Intake for the K&N yesterday. The R&M one had a foam filter located without any sort of heat shield and was just kinda crappy in quality.
The K&N definately sounds better. I did a few of my own "custom" mods to it. If you look in the picture someone posted, there is a big gap where the pipe goes through the heat shield. I used some of the weather stripped it came with (doesn't need to go around the bottom?!) to fill that gap... seems to seal better. I also didn't use the 2nd "L" bracket on the front of the heat shield since it's like impossible to install/remove. I used a zip-tie with good results and you can't even see it.
I also left the "ram air" section of my old R&M racing intake on there, it definately works because when I removed the old intake all sorts of stuff had been collected in the front of the filter! It had lots of little twigs and crap, flowers, 2 bees, and even a butterfly (lol poor bugs).
I didn't notice any power increase with the K&N, but like everyone else said, it sounds sweet.
