Today I went out for a drive and was going from first to second as soon as I shifted I felt this immedite wham like the drive shaft or rear axle broke. After getting out of the car Nothing looked broken. Now when I have it in neutral it rolls fine but when I have the clutch engaged it has this horrific noise coming from the rear right tire. Any ideas on what this could be?

 

Something in diff maybe. Put the rear up on Jack stands if you can and try to spin wheels (parking brake off)

 

It spins still but has a light clunky sound

 

listen very closely to where the sound is coming from. is it coming from the diff (big metal thing in the middle underside of the car, between the wheels, in case you dont know where it is) or is it coming from the actual wheel area itself.

 

Take a look at the CV boots. If they are twisted, you broke a CV joint.

 

I will be tearing it apart tonight. I'll keep you guys posted
