Need HELP quick!
Hello all,
I'm going to purchase an S2k this weekend. It's an '02.
It has the EPS light on. Maybe unrelated, but the he said the car SLIGHTLY pulls to the left...needing a small alignment.
What's up with this system? Is it ONLY for pump/rack failure? Could it be on for something stupid (Other than a sensor error/or wiring thing)? Could a bad alighment set it off?
What am I in for, I don't need a headache or a blown rack. Otherwise the car's great and a good deal...would this be a deal breaker, or something worth rooling the dice on?? HELP!!!!!!
Ps: Of course I searched!

Sounds
I be more concerned about whether it had be in an accident.Who sells a car that pulls to the left, with an eps light on and a dead rat stuck under the wind shield wiper
Oh,easy on the CAP locks, they don't like that here
Have not driven it yet...going to look at it this weekend...maybe later today.
And to Nightcrawler...I'm not looking for your opinion. I've already talked to techs today that told me it could be something as small as bad resistance to the sensor or some other abstract electical problem. He said if the car's P/S still works normally that I probably shouldn't worry too much. And why is it absurd to ask if a bad alignment would set it off...maybe the rack being out of whack due to the bad alignment would set the light off. I understand it sounds far fetched...but I don't know about S2k's, so I asked.
So why is it certain that "if the light is on, it's a serious problem"? And is it so obvious that you lol'd...really?!?!
I'd just like to know from you guys instead...I own a Supra and the guys over at SupraForums know way more than the techs at Toyota.;-)
Fast Jack: Thanks for your response. I agree it's odd...but the price might balance it out. Owner said it pulls SLIGHTLY, that noone would even notice it unless they got it over about 70MPH, he just wanted to be open and forthcoming with me. Won't know how bad it is until I see it...maybe it's just a bad bushing, or a bad pothole/curb put the suspension out a little. I am concerned about it being a crashed car...I'm a mechanic so I'll be looking over the car myself. If there's a rat anywhere...I'm gone!
2slow: Thanks, it's good to know what the manual says about the light. I don't know how it steers until I go see it tonight or tomorrow.
Thanks,
Steve

i don't know why you're butthurt, i was just saying that from my experience, a slight alignment problem won't trigger the EPS light. i've had my front wheels out of proper alignment spec before, with the car pulling to one side, and the EPS light never came on. i'm not saying that i absolutely know for a fact what the problem is, or that it's serious. i never said it was absurd for you to think xyz, i'm just telling you what i think of the problem. i never said it was obvious either. you say "And to Nightcrawler...I'm not looking for your opinion." but yes, you were looking for everyone's opinion, including mine, when you posted this topic.
i'm just loling because you're about to buy a car with a problem like that and all you're going on is what the guy SAID-- "he said the car SLIGHTLY pulls to the left...needing a small alignment." you asked if it's worth "rolling the dice on" which means you yourself realize it is a gamble and the problem could be a lot worse than the guy says.
and you also said "I own a Supra and the guys over at SupraForums know way more than the techs at Toyota.;-)" then say that you don't need my opinion because you "already talked to techs today that told me" blah blah blah.
you, sir, are a noob, sir. and i don't care if you own a 12,131rwhp supra or if you were on supratech for 4 score and 7 years, you just contradicted yourself multiple times and got butthurt over nothing.
cliffnotes: overly defensive noob asks question then gets mad when he gets response he might not want to hear. the same noob contradicts himself multiple times.
