Default Need recommendation for an ODB-II code reader

I need to get a good but not too expensive code reader for ODB-II cars. Right now I need it to pull the CEL codes on my 2003 Honda Pilot, whose auto transmission has suddenly started shifting erratically - great timing, two weeks before Christmas (

I just need a basic unit to read the codes.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Bob

the one I have is made by Innova canobd, probably find it at auto supply stores, it will read codes from newer vehicles and older ones. Many newer vehicles 1996+ use specific readers (can bus ?) , so it's best to find one that does older systems and newer ones.

This is the one I have , fairly simple but sufficient, they can get more complicated and expensive depending on what model you want.

I found the little bluetooth or wifi dongle they have now is pretty cool controlled with an iphone or droid. I think PLX makes one (Kiwi or something) and there are numerous generic ones.

It's currently on Amazon for $22.xx..but the prices go up and down periodically. Great price for a code reader in my opinion.

The OBD-II Bluetooth dongle with the Android application not only displays most (all?) of the engine/performance data (including boost) but it also integrates with your phone's GPS to give you route tracking and even SS 1/4 data if you so desire. You can also reset some codes (obviously, I haven't tried all codes). YMMV, but it seems a lot better than a simple code reader.

I have an OBDII to iphone cable, and read everything on the phone. I can clear codes, look them up, etc etc etc. $99 for the cable, app is free.
