So i just bought my s2000 less than a week ago n ive gotta say its awesome! i changed the oil n oil filter a few days ago n I'm planning on chaning the tranny n diff fluids too. However, I was wondering how do i know when the tranny fluid needs to be changed? my car feels great but when im shifting it doesnt feel as smooth as i would imagine it to be. Is this an indicator that the fluid needs to be changed? As i mentioned before Im planning on changing the fluid anyway, but im just curious if this is a sign. Thanks everybody!

Check out this thread for the maintenance schedule.

I have just made a thread for new owners, the link is in my signature. Honestly I would just change the fluid anyways. It doesn't cost that much and will give you peace of mind. Plus now you know it's changed

As with any fluid on any vehicle: maintenance schedule or used fluid analysis.

You're wondering if your imagination is a sign? We have no idea what you're imagining the S's shifter to be like. Have you driven any others for comparison? Shifting issues aren't caused only by tranny fluid and, in some cases, the driver is the issue. There are threads on dealing with shifting issues. Just a few from a quick site-restricted Google search:

Just change it. Its not expensive, and the schedule for changing is more often than you are probably thinking, so its probably due anyway.
