New piston rings.
grind gears just cruising sometimes out of no where=NEW CLUTCH especially if its hard to push the clutch pedal down..
That tech that looked at our car is tryna get over on you. $500 for pads. come on now.Do a compression test yourself. Just take it to honda!
Short bock is good but you may as well sleeve it, rings pistons and rods, all for boosting lower your compression and boost it high, but thats me and what im doing. Go for broke.

just get a short block ready for boost
new block = 1800 from honda + installation another $1200 + little parts
used block for sleeving = 400 - 500 + sleeving job $3500 ( boost ready up to 40 PSI ) from laskey racing or ERL..
