If your speedo is showing 0 while in motion, check G101, the ground wire on the back of the cylinder head.

VTEC may return as well.

I agree with the clogged exhaust theory. Do a vacumm test to determine if the exhaust is restricted (many youtube DIYs), or try disconnecting the cat and seeing if the car enters VTEC that way.
