Default No point in NA tuning....

Ok, I know I am fixing to get flamed by the ALL MOTOR guys but I have been doing a lot of research and it seems you really can't gain sh*t off of camshafts (Spoon [JDM] or TODA) For $1400 and you only gain 10.3 hp WTF? I have seen a lot of comments about how Spoon and Mugen ECUs don't help a lot either and/or people are having a lot of problems out of them. So what's the deal? Is the only way to get good hp/$ FI? or NOS ---> (no no for me)

You need to realize that you're taking about a 120hp/per liter production NA engine. When an engine is this maxed out from the factory you're not going to get big NA gains without doing major work and spending MAJOR money. If I can get my car up to 280hp crank then I'll be happy. That should be possible with the usually bolt ons, throttle body, cams, and the V-AFC. 140hp/per liter NA while still being reliable for daily driving kicks ass in my opinion.

As far as a I know the Spoon cams for our cars don't even exist. The specs people list are the Spoon B18C cam specs.

Well that's sux...I know a lot of s2000 guys wanna keep it NA just for the fact of still being able to take it up to 9,000 rpms and no worries...minus a mis-shift. hehe

RedCelica - Please note those numbers are as a "bolt-on" with no other modifications. Nearly every modification to a car needs fuel tuning to realize full potential. In addition, this is the sort of modification that works well in an ensemble. Paired with a throttle body, freer flowing intake, larger exhaust, and some fuel tunning, those gains could easily be doubled.

And the SC is reliable. I don't know of any one worried about wringing the engine up to 9000rpm.

I see where you are coming from and those are very good points but I dont find them realistic. If you can toss an intake on a stock RSX Type S and get 18.2 hp out of it and only like 7-8 from a AEM CAI on an S2000 with the same head lay out as the K series motors then I dont see whats up. I like Ted's explaination better I think I see where you are coming from. Honda tuned the S2000 so it would push 240 crank hp. Its hard to tune an already tuned car without a lot of $$$. Basically

Exactly. 18hp from an intake? That is pretty hard to believe.

For the S2000, FI is the cheapest way to get big power gains. (OK Nitrous, but that wasn't a consideration right?)

Some people enjoy the challenge. If we all wanted easy cheap power you'd have half this board running n20

While peak HP may not change much, there's one very good reason to mod the F20C: it turns into a dog in hot weather and/or stop-go driving. IOW, unless you mod, you'll LOSE a lot of performance under daily-driver type circumstances. The cooling mods (CAI, intake gasket, thermostat, etc.), *when combined*, can make a huge difference in real-world driving, even if the top end doesn't change at all.

I call BS on the 18hp gain for the RSX with just a cold air. Sorry to say but there is NO way ANY kind of CAI can free up that much hp. Coming to reality, it's probably only making 7-8 real hp just like the CAI for our S2k's.
