Noises from transmission/differential
Guys,
My -00 ap1 with around 85k miles is making these noises and I can't figure out what's causing them. The noise i'm most concerned with is a wobbling/grinding noise which is only present at low speed, from 1 mph to around 30 mph. This noise seems to stick around as long as the car is rolling, no matter if it's in gear, clutch engaged or disengaged, however the noise is most noticeable when acceleration. There is also a whining noise that appears when accelerating. Both the noises can be heard in the attached audio file.
Since the recording I have changed differential fluid and transmission fluid, both of which looked pretty dark. The differential fluid had some metal shavings in the magnet plug. The fluid change somewhat improved the noises but was not a complete cure. I could be wrong but i'm guessing a bad bearing somewhere in the drivetrain, but which one?
Thanks,
Tom
