Default Not able to shift into 6th

I missed a shift and now I can only shift into gears 1-5 and reverse. I suspect the bushings on the shift linkage but I typically only work with engine projects.
Anyone ever have any ideas to trouble shoot the transmission problem???

I did the famous misshift gear grind myself once too. I've seen numerous other people on the forum do the exact same thing. Billman, correct me if I'm wrong, but all you need to do is force it into gear. Work by throwing the shifter from 5th to 6th with pressure. Eventually it should go into gear, then work it back and forth. Basocally you've created a small burr on the gear and you need to work it out.

If you want to validate this, a forum search should turn up numerous results of other people with the same issue and the solution above I just posted.

Again, I did the same thing - did a gear grind and had to do what I said above to fix it. 50,000 miles later and everything is still a-okay.

Took a little bit of force but it worked itself loose. I do notice a small grind going into sixth but I'm hopping for to get smoother with a little time.

Again thanks for the tip it works much better.

The small grind will work itself out over time. I've actually done it twice >< in my car. According to Billman on here, it's not a biggie. I was terrified when I first did it to mine!

WOT in 6th gear will help flatten the burrs on the 5-6 gear collar and cure it.
