Default Not all S2K's are created equal

Not all of the S2Ks are performing the same, OR I've just gotten better at driving (doubt it)...

I had a '00 blk/blk, and the BEST time I could get was ~6.3-6.5sec 0-60, multiple runs, etc... ~70 degrees, tires warm.

Yesterday, we had an Autocross, and I had been mentioning that my '02 "seemed" faster than my '00, but who could tell with a dyno butt? So, I finally busted out my G-Tech (same one I used to measure my '00), and with a ~220lb passager (this time), I was able to pull 5.9 0-60... The tires weren't very warmed up, and it was sunny ~70 degrees.

The only mod to the '02 that the '00 doesn't have is an computer ESM (which I don't think does a damn thing at WOT, but now I'm wondering).

Driver? Car? Conditions? I dunno.

My MY2001 feels faster than the MT2000 did, especially now that it is all broken in.

I should have mentioned: The '00 had ~5000 miles on it when I tested it, the '02 has ~1750

What's an ESM?

I'd suspect your driving, conditions, clutch... could be a lot of things. That passenger, though... that should have skewed things negatively.

ESM stands for (I think): Electronic Signal Modifyer..

I'm actually not sure it does a damn thing... I got it to evaluate it, but never really did evaluate it, just stuck it on and forgot about it.

It taps onto the MAP sensor (Mass air-flow), and the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), and is supposed to 'fake' the ECU into thinking there's more (or less) airflow (depending on the throttle position)... Its 'side effect' is supposed to cause the ECU to 'rich/lean' the air->fuel mixture.

At WOT, I believe the ECU is bypassed (by design from Honda), and the fuel/air is just dumped in as fast as possible (I may be wrong), so the ESM effectivly does nothing at WOT.

I honestly don't know if it does anything at all, but I do notice worse gas milage than my previous S2000 (of course, I drive like a maniac too, so who knows, maybe I'm just driving more agressive lately).

p.s. Anyone know if this 'ESM' gadget really does anything?

Sounds like another name for a V-AFC (without the "V", i.e. VTEC control function). These things can make a big difference if tuned properly - in fact it's arguably the best NA mod you can get for the F20C. Whereas a VAFC is tuned individually for a car, it sounds like the ESM is pre-set, so it's probably not quite as effective; but given that VAFCs have demonstrated 10-15 hp gains over the entire band, the EMS might well be making a significant difference.

The ECU is not bypassed at WOT... at WOT or VTEC it does go to a fixed map, though... but I believe it still looks at/uses the MAP for the a/f table lookup. I believe that this does look at the MAP for WOT/VTEC, so it WOULD work in this case. I don't think it would work when NOT in WOT/VTEC, since the ECU watches the a/f via the O2 and adjusts the fuel trim accordingly... despite the MAP reading. I know that the ECU on OBD2 Preludes will "undo" the a/f correction of a V-AFC on the dyno, I suspect it is the same on the S2.

Does the G-Tech show the speed at the end of a run?

Gtech will show you 0-60, 1/4" mile, 60-0 in feet, Horse power (if you input car weight), and acceleration in G's.
