So I am trying to move forward into getting my blasted hardtop defogger to work on my MY'00, with an '06 center console. I bought my car with the hardtop, which came with extra side brushes, 2 extra sub-harnesses (+6, which is discontinued; and '03-05), and latches. I am assuming the previous owner(s) never figured it out.
I just got part #3 (sub-harness,hardtop) and part #4 (sub-harness, switch) of the infamous hardtop harness diagram. My current hurdle is this, my Part #3 is a 3 wire connector to part #2; and my Part #2 (harness, hardtop) is a 2 wire connector that is suppose to connect to Part #3. Unfortunately for me, 32203-S2A-000 (part #2) is discontinued, and I have not been able to find it. However, on page 22-30 of the 2000-2003 service manual, the diagram shows 2 wires connecting to hardtop ground, the other to the defogger grid. So logically, the other wire missing in my Part #2 is the ground wire.
Will my defogger function if I connect my 3 wire part #3 sub-harness to my 2 wire part #2 hardtop harness? I feel like I'm so close...
Bringing this back from the dead hardtop OEM defrost.
So I have my baby a 7500 serial from 2000 AP1 with the center console for the AP2 currently installed. I have the OEM hardtop which was originally installed on my 2002 which now has a Mugen with glass window and no defrost. So can I somehow rob the defroster switch from the right side behind the steering wheel and utilize this in my 2000 to power the hardtop with the 2002 wiring? I want the factory look for the defroster with the AP2 center console. I don’t have the defroster button on my AP2 console it’s the silver design with the “luxury” of the look for the 2 cup holders. I still keep all my AP1 console and radio door but the AP2 looks and functions better for me and the wife holding 2 small beverages.
is it possible to buy a ap2 with the hazard, roof and and defroster and replace the silver without swapping the entire ap2 console for one with the defroster? Like I said I have a 7500 vin so I have the blue wire for the rear defroster switch set up for the AP1 center console I just don’t want to go back to the stock AP1 console for convenience and look I prefer and I’d love to be able to somehow use the factory location for the glass window from my 2002 that I don’t use the soft top on.
any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated, while I would love to put the blank in the 2002 factory soft top defroster location behind the right side of the steering wheel if I can somehow use an ap2 with a defroster without compromising my mint AP2 center console and add the rear defrost there for the oem hardtop i could live with that solution also it would just be a shame to waste the factory steering wheel switch and wiring if it’s possible from the 2002 with the Mugen top to retro fit on the 2000 for my OEM hardtop since the 2002 is staying Mugen with the glass rear window with no defroster for good.
I know there’s a lot of knowledge here hopefully someone can guide me in my quest to accomplish this one way or another with the factory fit and finish im desiring from this project.
Which "AP2" center console are you referring to? I'm assuming '04-'05 since my '06 has the defroster switch right there making the wiring easily accessible.
Wiring can be as simple as an On-Off toggle. The OEM defogger automatically shuts down in 15 minutes but unless that circuitry is part of the switch or relay you'll probably have to extinguish it manually on a '00-'01 car.

yes it’s the silver ap2 console without the center defrost switch. Can the panel with just the hazard, roof switches be swapped on the ap2 consoles for one that contains the defrost switch? I have everything for the ap1 to make the defrost work, however I would love the switch and blank that replaces the coin tray. The dealership or previous owner of the ap1 extra console I have installed a sleek small on off on the bottom eighth of the coin tray and a 3.5 audio port on the left side. Both about the sizes of dimes and very clean but not to the OEM look I prefer and then I lose the 2nd drink holder which is a total bummer for the look and functionality of the ap1 console I have that will easily work with the hard top,
I was just wondering if there’s a silver ap2 dash front with all 3 spots for the switches I could replace within the console and if anyone has any idea what that part number is. Basically want the silver finish with the he defroster for the ap2
Unless you stumble onto a '06 or later full console you're probably out of luck for the switch panel and it wasn't made in silver that I can see. The 3-switch panel fits the 2006-2009 S2000 "AP2 (DBW)" cars but only seems to have been made in Satin Black (which is what mine looks like). When it was available (past tense) it retailed for $187.77 (!) and I think that's just the panel, not all the switches. The DBW cars have the VSA switch on the dashboard in lieu of the rear defroster switch of the earlier cars.
Honda 83403-S2A-G51ZC Panel, Center Console Switch *NH646L* (SATIN BLACK)
The MY 2000 owners manual does not show a switch on the instrument panel where the defroster is on the 2002 and later -- but if there is a blank a switch may fit.
You can get the "CR" console in other than black but you will have to make the hole (that was filled in) for the roof retract. It has the carbon fiber look. The same goes for the matching headhunt radio door. I got that but did not bother with the console.
