Holy shit S2ki has some STUPID individuals.

Seriously if why lower gears make your car faster is a hard concept for you to grasp I feel very very sorry for the people who have to interact with you in your day to day lives.

The higher geared car will pull on the lower geared car always. It is simple phyics. You only lose mathimatical top speed.
Don't you mean the lower geared car will pull on the higher geared car, until the lower geared car reaches it's geared top speed?

He is saying higher gear meaning a higher final drive ratio. (4.56vs4.11 for example) Lower top speed, but faster acceleration.

Because the s2k's hp climbs so rapidly to redline and the torque stays so flat, gears are suited for it IMO. But I still think 4.77s in an ap2 is a bit much.

If the tq was dying off towards redline and the hp was flat for the last couple thousand rpms, gears wouldn't be that beneficial.

But if you shift at redline in an s2k with 4.56 or 4.77s you will be at a higher starting rpm in the next gear, be in a better accelerating gear, and of course be at a higher hp level in the powerband.

I guess it depends on how you look at it.
Yeah. "Taller v. shorter" is a little less ambiguous.

Here is a video I found of an AP2 with 4.77s.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWffR3R6-Xk

Looks like 5500rpms at 90mph. Vtec ~100mph in 6th(video doesn't show it though). Not bad. I'd rather do the 4.56s in case I supercharge down the road though.

that is not always true when talking about certain speeds.

Thanks,
I can say in my AP1 that the 4.777's made second gear feel more like first gear and 3rd like 2nd and 4th like 3rd etc etc. Have yet to take it to the track to see if its going to hurt me or not.

By the way I pulled 1&1/2-2 cars on an AP2 at about 40mph roll all the way to 120mph, before the gears we were pretty even, hard to say if I had an advantage or not due to MAP sensor issues I was having.
so what does that make first feel like? lol i want the 4.77's but im worried that my shifting wont be fast enough, since i know with the 4.77's im going to be shifting alot more/faster. i heard its almost impossible starting a race in 1st since it goes by sooo quick.

Well you'll need more tire if its an AP1, I kicked mine in second about 5k rpms and the rear got squirmy, if your in a turn and punch it prepare to spin if ur not careful, first gear its a struggle for traction with the OEM tire size, I even have RE01R and they dont help, just not wide enough any more, I haven't launched it hard yet, breaking it in still. If your gonna keep it NA and dont do a ton of HWY driving go for 4.77's. J's are awesome, my diff is quieter than stock, definitely worth the money.

IMO the OP has to decide what his desires are, I don't think you can have the best of both worlds, that's why race cars gear for a particular track. Personally it's more desirable to have performance under 100 MPH than over.
