Default is "octane boost" additive harmful

I'm trying to diagnose a tapping/knocking in my 2003 s2k that is most evident when going uphill. I buy premium gasoline already and wonder if an octane boost additive might change things. Is it harmful in any way to an engine?
thanks,

Well it all depends on what you get im sure. But I just bought an 04 s2000 so I wouldnt know. My 01 f150 manual advised me not to use it, saying it would cause damage. I wouldn't use it until you are absolutely certain that it wont damage your vehicle.
