Default OEM battery replacements

sup guys, i got some noobie questions the search function couldnt find...

here is the situation i am in right now.
i have a MY02 with 45k miles on it, today i used a car vac, and my car wouldnt start. i jumped started it but the revs would drop real low, almost to the point of stalling. after about driving 20 minutes on the freeway, my car seemed fine and didnt have trouble starting up after that.

1. Is my oem battery going to die soon?
2. how long should the oem battery last?
3. any good aftermarket batteries you guys recommend?
4. would a lightweight battery (ie. spoon, t1r) last long or be able to handle a basic sound system?

Thanks in advance

1. you can check the voltage of your battery and see what it's at...or you can go to an auto parts store and have them test it for you

2. i want to say it shouldn't be going out already but i guess there's other variables. If your car is still under warranty it's possible that they might replace it.

3/4. I've heard that the light weight batteries aren't good to use if you're running a bunch of audio equpiment, but maybe someone else would be able to comment further. Optima recently released a yellow top that fits our car (fitment 51), that's probably what i'll end up going wtih once it's time to replace my battery.

FWIW, i don't think that your battery is dead. It sounds like the carvac just drained the battery and it dind't have enough juice to start it up. driving it around should have allowed the alternator to charge it back up. I'd definitely test the battery or atleast wait to see if it gives you any more problems starting before you run out to get it replaced.

I also have a MY02 and my OEM battery started draining regularly a couple of months ago. At first, I thought it was our colder-than-usual winter or perhaps my subwoofer amp causing the drain, but later determined it was the battery. I replaced it with an Optima (yellow top) based on some research which made me think it would be more robust than the OEM. Time will tell.

I've been very happy with the Odyssey lightweight battery like the one sold in the s2ki store. I'm assuming you wouldn't have an issue with a sound sytem as long as you didn't crank it up with the car off.

I've heard AC Delco was the best normal type battery, coming from mechanics. Check your battery with a multimeter. I know my CRX reads 11-12 volts when the car is off and 13-15 volts when the car is started. Maybe someone can tell us what it should read on a S2000?

1. Go to sears as they will test your battery (load test) for free. Good info.

2. Batteries in my other hondas have lasted over 50k and one of them had a couple of amps and subs. But, it depends on how you use it (do you load the battery often while the car's off?).

3. Optimas are very popular aftermarket replacements. There's another couple of brands that are pretty good too, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

4. Lightweight batteries should be ok as long as you don't blast your audio system w/ the car off. Dunno how much the Oddysey battery is, but the NRG Cell is considerably less than Spoon and T1R batteries.
