Would you shave your brake rotors for the purpose of making them lighter? Technically the flywheel is a wear item; we shave it when we get a new friction disc.

The stock FW is relatively heavy at about 14lbs while aftermarket units are 8 - 10 lbs.

Obviously you can shave all you want off the stock unit but anything more than an light resurfacing is not recommended. Honda says not to do anythiing but replace.

A number of us have Toda or Comptech FW's that perform well allowing the engine to rev up and down slightly faster.

I had a flywheel for a crx lightened. Take it to a machine shop and have them remove the big lip on the back of the flywheel.

Do not remove any material from the face of it.

The thing is balanced and turns at or over 9K RPM's DO NOT ALTER THIS PART OF YOUR CAR!!!! You could end up dead by decapitation. Buy a light flywheel if that is what you are looking for. That is the safe way
