Default Oil Cap Crack In Half!

I try topping off my oil today and when i try to losen the oil cap, it was so damn lose. I was shock to find the oil cap was crack in half. The half of the threaded part fell in to the engine. I had to removed the valve cover to retrieved it. The only proplem is, it was not a clean break. They are still very small piece some where in the engine!! I did an oil changed and couldn't find any debries in the oil. What is the worst possible damaged from a tiny little piece of hard plastic lose inside of an engine?? By putting the two piece together, i could see it chip off about 1/16 thick and 1/4 long still inside of the engine.

I expect it will make it's way to the sump and either sit there or get sucked into the filter. I wouldn't be too concerned. However, I would take this up with Honda (guessing you're in warranty). I've heard of this happening to a few of our caps and have replaced mine with a aluminium Mugen knock-off.

Maybe it could go under a cam lobe causing a valve to get pushed down into a piston leading to catastrophic failure.

Or maybe it'll do nothing.

Since the cams are always in contact with the rockers, I doubt a piece of plastic is going to stand a chance.

If the piece is larger than a few mm's it's going to stay in the bottom of the oil pan. The oil pump's inlet screen won't allow the pump to pick it up and circulate through the engine.

Still in warranty...i bought this up with Walnut Creek Honda already! The service manager said, "he can't do anything about it right now". Than he said, because you changed your own oil, it wouldn't be cover. So i told him, if the engine is low on oil, we're not allow to top off the oil??
