Default oil cap fell off

my oil cap fell off and now i hear this rattling sound .. i took the car to the shop and they put it on the lift ... nothing was found ... im going crazy with that noise and i know for a fact it im having troble accelerating the car.. ive read on the forums that maybe its on top of the transmission, and you need to lower the trans. in order to get it....
is there anyway i could remove it without taking it back to the shop or lowering the transmission

thanks
ariel

any info... would be helpful

just get another cap, and the other one will eventually fall down.

Drive the car over a steeply inclined and bumpy road or just a bumpy road and keep your fingers crossed.

Edit- Foward and reverse over a speed bump and hope for the best.

mine was inbetween the firewall and the top of the tranny case... i got a hangar wire and fished around from up top... but then got at it from underneith and eventually found it! trust me, the noise was making me go mad... i know the feeling... just persevere and keep fishing!

Put the car on ramps, and go fishing. The cap WILL NOT fall out on it's own, this has happened to many s2ks. You don't need to take anything apart. Just get a bright light and search for it.

Thanks, Bill, for corroborating the advice I gave to the OP in a PM.

The lack of acceleration has nothing to do with the oil cap loss.

Back from the grave, sorry. Same thing happened to me... Do I need to lift the car up and search from underneath or can I use a hanger from above? This rattling is driving me nuts

Put new cap on, check oil level, go hit it on some curvy backroads, she'll come out, guaranteed.
