oil change intervals
ive been running amsoil 10w 30 and its been about 5k since my last oil change. i keep topping it off as needed but i didnt know if i should go ahead and change it or if it should be good for a little while longer. (amsoil is expensive) if the case is that i can let it go for a while longer should i be changing out the oil filter between extended changes, i use the oem psx1400 filter
You are going to get lots of opinions on this subject. You will have to come to your own conclusion based on what you learn (and who you want to believe).
I am currently running 30,000 miles between oil changes using Amsoil Signature Series 0W-30. I drive mostly highway miles and I have a bypass filter installed (along with a prelube pump), so my oil is staying very clean. My UOAs show that my oil is still healthy, and I could actually go longer if I wanted to.
As a rule, Amsoil oils hold up very well for extended oil change intervals. Assuming you're using Amsoil ATM, a high quality oil filter and air filter and you don't do a great deal of short distance driving, you could easily go 10,000 miles. If you want to be sure, you can always get a used oil analysis with your next oil change to see how well your oil TBN is holding up. Since you are adding some oil, your TBN is likely very good and you would be wasting good oil by changing it at 5,000 miles.

Considering that Honda's recommendation for Dino oil is to change it at 7,500 miles, I would expect that you should be able to run synthetic until at least 10,000. I run Mobil 1 and change it once a year, which for me, is about 7,000 miles.

I change mine with Mobil 1 every ~7500 miles. Might go another couple hundred if I'm lazy. I never did an oil analysis, but it doesn't come out totally black and dirty.

I go 5.5-6.5k in the S. Synth could certainly go longer. I do 8-10k in my CL-S.
