Default Oil consumption

Who has a car that drinks oil like it's going out of style?

I put yet another half-quart in the car this morning. Why it's bad is that after the last oil change I picked up a spare case of Mobil 1 and now half the case is gone.

It's been 3,500 miles and the car has gone though 3.5-4 quarts of oil in that time. If this keeps up, I have another 700 miles to go until the next oil change. At the rate I'm burning oil I'll have put about 4.5-5 quarts in. The rate seems to be at or near constant. It's about a quart for every 1000 miles. Sometimes it's slightly higher. This pretty much means I'm down 1 1/2 to 2 X's on the dipstick after every fillup.

My driving habits? VTEC very rarely. The car spends most if its time doing a work commute on surface streets. It was purchased new and I never abused it. Switched from dino to synthetic at 9,000 miles. Car has 24,000 on it now. I'm burning through nearly a case of Mobil 1 between oil changes now. It's getting excessive. My last blackstone report is below. Note on this report it said 2.6 quarts, after sending it in, I found out it had actually gone through a bit more than 3. This time around I decided to log all the consumption.

I'm curious about something.........

When you start the car, does the little oil (idiot) light take a few seconds to turn off? Or does it turn off right away like the other warning lights on the dash?

For little VTEC action, you are burning WAY too much oil. I would have thought you were tracking it.

On my 2002 model, I had oil consumption with Mobil 1 as well. My car consumed about 1 1/2 quarts after about 3000 miles. I thought that was excessive but yours takes the cake. I switched back to Dino oil and the consumption went down to about 3/4 quarts per oil change.

On my 2005 model, no measurable amount of oil loss yet. I have around 6000 miles on it now.

My car eats as much oil. I use Amsoil 10w30.

In ONE tank of gas, i lost 1.2 quarts of oil, but i DID go to the track.

Otherwise I lose about as much oil as the this first post guy...

Try putting a krank vent on your crankcase breathers. Suppose to cut oil consumption by blowby and maintain a vacuum in your crankcase. I think the theory is a vacuum in the crankcase makes your rings seal better, etc etc.

No, there's no visible sign of oil consumption or burning except for a really large carbon buildup on the exhaust tips.

It turns off after a very short delay. I never timed it in relation to the other lights, but most of my cars take a few seconds to turn off.

What grade of Mobil1 do you have in your S ?
My MY04 S2k had 4.5 quarts Mobil1 5W30 + 1 bottle (15 Oz) of Valvoline SynPower Oil Treament for about 1k miles, no oil consumption at all. May be I am lucky to have an S that drunk no oil after first oil change at 3,700 miles.
If you do not like to use Valvoline SynPower Oil Treament additive and you like to use Mobil1, then you should use Mobil1 5W40 T&SUV as recommended by both Honda of Japan and Mobil, because your area can be above 100F during summer months.

Do you have a link to these recommendations (5W40)?
Thanks
