Default oil fill cap trouble.....wtf?

I got myself a spoon oil cap last month and put it on. Everything is good.

So I pop the hood after comming home from work last night (smelled gasoline) and the oil cap has fallen off. Little squirts of oil on the engine. Down 1-x on the dipstick. Cleaned it up. Refill, put on Spoon oil cap....it no longer fits.

Tried to put the cap back on and now it only threads 1/2 way down. It just stops. 1/2 way screwed in. When I installed it originally......It screwed all the way down.

I put the factory oil cap on and that is fine. Is it possible the Spoon worked it's way out? I have never had this happen on any car I own. The only time I have had the oil cap off was to swap the new for the old oil cap. I never take it off to chek the oil. When I installed the spoon oil cap new it screwed all the way down.

Just got in from the garage and the spoon still does not fit.......This is just plain strange.

WTF? Can anyone explain this? ideas? Car has 1300 miles.

crazy stuff. Outside of a defect in the cap there doesn't seem to be an explanation.

.....unless your car is trying to tell you it want's Mugen instead!

Is this a sanity ping test, Lee?

Very odd - how do the threads look on both the Spoon and the oil fill? Is it possible it never did screw all the way down, and that is why it came loose?

Did you get your exhaust or did a customs agent confiscate it for "study"?

Hi Glenn,

I have 2 pms from people that had the exact same problem. It is like the metal has expanded. I am not wrenching the oil cap to the car. The threads look good, and I am pretty anal about screwing oil caps down tight.

I thought I was loosing my mind.....OR perhaps I have.......garage gremlins<dramatic organ music plays>.

Apparently my exhaust is floating off the coast in some cargo boat waiting for some paperwork to go through. If I ever get it......I will post pics. I try not to think about....I get bummed.

Sorry - I feel your pain aboput the Mugen - that Spoon(ful) of blues is an unncesssary irritation - I hope no one posts one of the "Honda engineers knew what they were doing" responses to you. I guess you are going to call the retailer, or was this an eBay thing? Is it possible that the part was a knock-off, and did hesat warp?

Maybe this will make you feel better:
I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance.
