Default Oil and Oil Consumption.

I'm curious to what brand and type of oil everyone here uses. Right now I'm using Castrol Syntec Blend 5W-30. I've run with this oil for almost 2000 Miles and have not burned ANY oil.

I have 6873 Miles on the Odo right now. I did my 1st change at just under 5000 miles. During the break in I burned about 2 & 1/2 quarts of oil and I kept burning oil until that 1st oil change. But ever since then I have not had to add a single drop. From reading the board it seems like this is very unusual with people burning oil well into the 10K range. Or have other people seen similar results?

Thx.
PS. For the 1st 5K miles I would consistantly get a pretty thick carbon buildup on the exhaust pipes. I have not seen any signifigant buildup since the oil change.

Oil usage has nothing to do with the type of oil you use. The usage of oil by the F20C has to do with the ring, and cylinder liner material. I use the oil sold at Honda (Mobil 1).

Seb2k,

I had the same experience. Mine burned about two quarts until I changed the oil at 3750 miles and it hasn't burned any since then. I like Castrol GTX 10W30 for now, at least. After I'm sure it's stopped burning oil, I'll change to synthetic.

It really struck me as being very odd that after changing the break-in oil, the oil consumption stopped! I just took the car on a 500+ mile trip to Chicago and back and I certainly expected to see some oil consumption, but not a drop.

After this experience, I'm not ready to say that oil consumption has nothing to do with the type of oil that you use. The difference was like flipping a switch. I changed the oil and no more consumption!

Time will tell.
