Default Oil Question - 1/2 full!!!!

I have had my S2k for 3500 miles and have been checking the oil like suggested. It is now down to about half full. I guess the engine burns oil or there is a leak.

My question is, what kind of oil do I put in it to match what Honda puts in it new? I want to put in a 1/2 quart or full to refill it.

I have found in these forums that this engine oil burning is common with new s2ks.

If you only have to add 1/2 quart in 3500 miles consider yourself lucky. I burned 1 qt in the first 1000 miles under normal driving. Use a premium 10w30 non-synthetic oil to top it off. I used Castrol GTX.

I assume by "half full" you mean half way down the dipstick marks. If that is true, then yes, add about 1/2 quart of any good quality motor oil. And, of course, recheck the oil level after several minutes to allow the oil to drain down into the crankcase.

Conventional board wisdom suggests not using sunthetic since it may not allow the engine to wear properly during break-in. However, I can't imagine how 1/2 quart of synthetic mixed with 5 quarts of factory oil could compromise the break-in process. The main concern for engine health is to keep the oil level full!

Yes, half way down the dipstick marks. Will do then.
Anyone else have any other suggestions for oil type and brand? Other than synthetic?

I would highly recommend Castrol GTX "Drive Hard" 10W-30 (1/2/ Quart). This oil has a higher then most Molybdenum content. The moly will fill in small material flaws over time. The Break-In oil from Honda has been found to be higher in Molbdenum and and detergents.
