I think this may actually have some merit.

I started using Pennzoil in 2 cars.

AP1 (0W40) is burning it at a rate of 1qt every 4K miles.

K series car (5W30) is burning it at a rate of 1qt every 11-12K miles. This car never burned a drop of 0W20 Castrol in its 125K mile life.

Both burned off more than usual.

I've had mineral based oils burn faster in engines, than synthetic. My all time favorite was castor oil based 2-stroke Maxima 927 racing oil. Really lubricates well, in the most severe conditions in my old dirt bikes. Exhaust smells sweet, too!

Thanks for the Confirmation. The tendency that Engines burn GTL oil is there. Not in every engine, but...

Some MSDS for Mobil 1 0W-40 have stated 1-DECENE, HOMOPOLYMER HYDROGENATED 68037-01-4 10 - < 20% H304 DISTILLATES (FISCHER - TROPSCH), HEAVY, C18-50 – BRANCHED, CYCLIC AND LINEAR 848301-69-9 40 - < 70% H304.

Unable to get the MSDS for Mobil 1 0W-30.

However, my 2009, 77K miles, always using Mobil 1, has never burned any oil at all. The level stays at the X (both sides) when I filled after a change.

I have run Mobil 1 0/40 for the last 6 years. Over 100k miles in all kinds of weather, from 110+ down to 7 below 0. Got to love a oil that does that and not burn any oil even though my S is coming up onto 200k miles.
