no, it's for sure set on 4 cyl. the sensors are on 06 06, the little arrow is pointing towards the right upwards, everything is as it should be with the primary settings. i'm putting my money on the ground wire.

The # of cylinders would have no effect on idle. The VAFC only needs to know the # of cylinders to correctly calculate RPM for VTEC and fuel corrections (no effect at idle). At idle, the VAFC just passes the MAP voltage straight through. In this case, the ECU isn't getting the correct MAP voltage for one of the reasons above.

Why? Have you tried it? I think the engine would run all the way to redline regardless of the VAFC's cylinder setting. It just wouldn't VTEC at the right spot, and the fuel corrections would all be off.

LOL, it'll run. It'll rev, but it won't produce much power above 6000 because VTEC won't kick in so it may not like going to 9000.

Also, the VAFC will only show 2/3rds the revs because it is counting 3 ignition pulses per rev rather than 2 (it's a 4 stroke).

It will run, but it will run like shit. One time my VTEC would not engage on my B16A3 Del Sol, and it ran like shit above 6k rpm. I mean it almost sounded like the valves were floating. This can't be good for the engine.

The valve timing of the primary cam lobes is not engineered to rev past 6k. The valves can tend to float.
