one smooth ride but yet another problem
I replaced my drivers side axle because I had the shakes but now the abs light is on and I dont know what I did to trigger it. Here's step by step how I did the work. (please excuse techincal ignorance)
1. lifted the car and loosened the bolts on the cv joint housing(nearest the diff).
2. removed the tire then axle nut.
3. removed the ball joint nut and tapped it with a ball peen hammer to free it.
4. lifted the rotor while pushing with my left hand and pulling with the right.
5. while holding the rotor with my left hand I pulled the tire end of the axle out first then pulled the cv joint end after
6. put the new axle in
7. place the bolts in the cv joint housing(nearest the diff).
8. put the rotor back in place
9. tightened the ball joint nut
10. tightened all the cv joint bolts
11. put the axle nut back on with torque wrench
12. put the tire back on
Now the damn light! Can anyone think of a reason for it to come on?

Perhaps you damaged the ABS lead to the left rear hub. With all the messing around that you did it is conceivable that the connection was compromised causing the light to come on. I don't have access to my service manual since I'm still at the office, so I can't give you more details right now - can anyone else help him out?
1. When you put it all back together, you may have changed the air space between the wheel sensor and the pulser wheel (the toothed thing). That space must be between 0.40 mm to 1.0 mm.
2. When you angled the rotor assembly out like you did to remove the drive shaft, did you unfasten the ABS sensor line anchor? If you didn't, you probably stretched the ABS wire to the extent that you may have either broken it or pulled it out of its sensor attachment. If this is the case, that sensor, along with its line is a separate unit that I think you can buy. You have to follow that line to where it is connected by a wiring harness. I'm not sure where that harness is. It might be inside the trunk behind the liner.
