Default Swapping inner cv joints without removing axles?

I was reading the thread in the FAQ's and someone posted it is not necessary to remove the axle from the hub assembly, but the directions werent too clear. So is it possible? It seems like it would save alot of time and cursing by not having to worry about popping the balljoint or removing the axle nut

Then how would you swap them to the opposite side if you can't get them free from their current location?

Im guessing there would be enough clearance if you were to take the boot strap off and unbolt it on the diff side

Does anyone who knows what they are talking about have something to add?

I can tell you for a fact....it is much easier (and faster) to do with the axles out of the car, and standing upright.

Not only will it be a total pain in the ass while in the car, the bearings will fall off the instant you slide the bucket off.

Note the tie rod puller on the left, which makes a perfect s2k ball joint popper.
