There was a post on here a while ago about how an individual bought a pre-owned S who's original owner over reved the car. The new owner put about 30k or so miles on it before the engine went down the pooper.

How did you over-rev?
I think different scenarios have more potential for damage.
For example, if you over-reved because you down shifted from 5-2 instead of 5-4, the transmissions inertia will force the engine to turn too fast.
If you simply rev too much inbetween shifts and didn't let the clutch out the car's rev-limiter will protect the engine for the most part.

For an ap1 you might have cracked the valve retainers. No way of knowing unless you pull the valve cover and check for yourself. Your car will also run fine until one day the engine decides to die on you.

did you overrev by shifting to too low of a gear? or did you just run the engine up past 9000?

if you did the latter, that's perfectly fine. there's a fuel cut at 92 or 9300 preventing the engine from revving higher.

if you overreved by shifting to too low of a gear, there's a possibility that the speed you were going and the gear you shifted to will force the engine to rev way past 9000 AND the fuel cut, thereby allowing you to reach rpms of over 10000 rpm by a mis-shift.
