Default Performing first Radiator Flush

I read some post prior to use either mopar radiator fluid(per XViper) or to use the hona type 2 fluid. First off I was wondering what would be the problem if you would use prestone or some other radiator fluid from an auto store. And second, whats the problem if you put too much radiator fluid instead of water. They recommend to mix 50-50. But are their any benefits of mixing it 80-20 in favor of the radiator fluid.

Thanks

Check your owners manual to see what type to use. Xviper's probably didn't require the same type as your MY 03. Go with the recommended mix, or you could create problems.

There is only brand difference between the fluid types. I stuck with honda just because their new stuff, so I've heard is pretty good. I'm sure you can stick with anything and be ok.

There would be some benefits of using an 80-20 mixture. Since water is the best for heat transfer, the more water the better transfer. You just want to make sure that the fluid does not get so hot that it boils, thus why we use a mixture. You also want some coolant to help with corrosion.

I don't know enough to actually recommend anything so I hope my post brings more knowledgable people in.

It's because of the silicates contained in radiator fluids. You need a silicate free fluid for our radiators and therefore you should run with Honda's fluid since its recommended (or just look for any silicate free brand). I would go with Honda though. True and Tested.

I would personally go with the Honda Type II, its the perfect stuff for our cooling system so there will be no question, plus it comes premixed so you just pour it in and go. May I ask why you are doing a coolant flush though? The stock fill is good for 100k/10 years.

There is no reason to use 80% coolant 20% water, the only reason to do that would be if its getting colder than -34*F or if you're boiling your coolant. An 80/20 mix will cool your car much less effectively than a 50/50 mix.

I will be doing a flush and fill this weekend as well, I am switching over to Honda Type II so, I will have to flush out the old stuff like 4 or 5 times . You MY01 + guys are lucky, just drain and fill.

Isn't the Type II compatible with the older stuff that came in the '00's? I.E. Maybe you don't need to do anything more than a regular flush/fill (I am not stating fact, only a possibility that you should research).

Its not compatible. You're supposed to do a very complete flush. When I switched mine from type I to type II I flushed 4 times and the water coming out still has a slight green tint.. but I said screw it and poured in the type II.. this was at the beginning of the summer so its still up in the air as to whether I'm screwed
