Default pressure plate/flywheel

why do some people upgrade their clutch and pressure plate and some people only do their pressure plate? i'm never going to be putting down monster torque/hp so i don't think i need the heavy duty clutch but what would just the PP do?

i'm getting a flywheel and wanted to upgrade while i was in there...i just want a solid grab and firm feel. any suggestions on what to upgrade?

edit

maybe i'm not describing it right, i'd like a quicker, more direct feeling engagement on my shifts.

I'm putting down a damn sight more than you and the stock pp/clutch is just fine, many others as well with close to or over 300whp.

If you're just dying to upgrade you should buy the kit from HTG @ http://www.hardtopguy.com/store/product.ph...34&cat=0&page=1

Where you're confusing me is your wanting more direct shifts? The clutch just disengages everything, it's not going to change anything once you're engaged. It slips or it doesn't. If you want it to be faster, you gotta be faster with your foot.

The OEM Friction Disk is rated to handle far more torque than the engine can supply. But the FD alone can hold no torque unless it is given enough clamping force. That is the limiting factor (weakest link) in the stock clutch. So a heavy duty Pressure Plate provides the extra spring clamping force.

well i was thinking of doing the pp while i was in there for the flywheel, that's why i asked. the shifts feel spongy...maybe because of the delay valve.

Get an ACT pressure plate. I've had mine for 50k miles.

This way when you bang second you can break traction no sweat
