I just bought an 03.

I am having the same symptoms as you as far as it feeling like it wants to cut out, then feeling fine 2 seconds later, and the idle, if I tap the gas it drops to 200-300 rpm and vibrates for a second then goes back to normal...but this is only some of the time...(3-4 times I drove it)
That is exactly what my car does! I changed the spark plugs b/c my husband said it could possibly be that but It still does it.

It could be your catalytic converter. If your plugs were fouled badly then unburned fuel could have caused damage to your catalytic converter by super heating it. This may be causing the bad smell that you are now noticing.

It could also be a bad O2 sensor. Super heating the exhaust could also damage this and cause it to send bad data to your ECU.

Have you checked for DTCs or is your CEL on?

Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are stored to tell a technician what is wrong with the car. If your CEL goes on, a DTC should be stored indicating what the problem is. Even if the CEL goes off, the DTCs are stored. You can use a scan tool to tell you which DTCs have been stored. They're available at Autozone and other parts stores.
