CDV = Clutch Delay Valve.
Its a build-in restriction (in the clutch slave cyl) to make sure the clutch isn't engaged too quickly.
It should not matter on disengaging (pressing the pedal) as far as I know.
So even when you side-step, the delay valve lets the clutch engage at a slower rate.
Some say its to protect the diff.
Some say its to keep the revs up during shifts for the lower redline F22's with their heavier flywheels.
European models are still using the F20 but the MY04 and on models also have the CDV slave.

Changed the trans fluid and things were slightly smoother, but the gears are still difficult to engage (feels clunckie/notchie) and my clutch pedal feels odd (not a steady presure). I'll bleed the clutch and let you know once that's done. Gotta love the DIY page!

HH-S2000, you didn't indicate whether your tranny fluid replacement at 20k miles was with Honda MTF or something else. If it was with something else, you might want to change it again with the Honda MTF to eliminate one variable. Also, I've been a bit amazed at how much my tranny shift feel varies as the outside air temp drops below about 50F (especially 1-2 and 2-3). After driving around (~10 freeway miles), it seems like the gear oil and other spinning bits warm up and shifting becomes smoother. This with Honda MTF changed about 5,000 miles ago, including track days at Reno-Fernley, Laguna Seca, and Thunderhill. It's been that way since day one.
