Default Problem with VTEC (Help!)

I don't know whether this has been discussed before but I was wondering if I could get some advice on a problem i'm having.

For the last few weeks or so my car is keeping me from going into VTEC. I'll reach about 6.5 RPM's and then it will kick me out and almost shoots me back as though VTEC is not engaging. Does anyone have any suggestions about what is going on? It's been happening about every time recently, once It started I called my mechanic and I have an appointment tomorrow. He says he's never heard of anything happening like this before. Any suggestions for me? Thanks a lot!

you can't vtec until temp gauge reach to two bar....the car needs to warm before it allows you to vtec pass 6500 rpm.

to be on the safe side vtec after 3 bars on your temp gauge.

no.

at two bars - you MIGHT be able to go over 6500rpm's but VTEC will not be engaged. VTEC engages at three bars.

this is in the manual and is a precaution for the engine. Or else...it wouldn't feel that great, revving up an engine with no oil, and not warmed up all the way to 9000rpms.

You left out some important details. Is your car fully warmed up when this is happening? From what you are describing, it sounds like you are hitting a rev-limiter, right? If that's not the case and your car is fully warmed, you are probably low on oil. Since VTEC needs oil pressure to engage, it won't work if you are low. Have you checked your oil level recently?

Check your oil, if it is very low, VTEC will not engage. Also, is your MIL on? If it is, reset it and the problem may go away. This happened on a buddies car. And get this... he brought it to the dealer, who told him it was a wiring problem because of his VAFC!!! They wanted $200 to fix it, when all it was, was that VTEC wouldn't kick in bewcause of the maintenance light. As soon as he reset the light, everything was back to normal. Talk about either unknowledgeable or dishonest dealers.

Well thanks for the advice guys. I think it was only that I wasn't letting the system properly warm up before VTECing. Thanks a lot for the help!!!
