Default Problems shifting in reverse

Its hard for me to shift in reverse now a days...In the morning i could do it easily...but when the car is warmed up...then its hard for me to push down and bring it to reverse...when i DO get it into reverse...its hard for me to pop up the shifter...(hopefully you guys know what i mean)...if i dont do that then it will stay down...which when driving could be dangerous cause i could go into reverse instead of 6th gear...but i know the car would not let me shift to reverse while car is still in motion. Can someone please help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Your car may fall under this TSB :

Service Bulletin 02-046

Reverse or 5th Gear Is Difficult to Select

SYMPTOM
Shifting into reverse or 5th gear is difficult.

PROBABLE CAUSE
Moisture in the shifter housing has caused the
mechanical reverse lockout assembly to corrode and
stick.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Remove, clean, and lubricate the shift lever.

Why would you say in one sentence that you are concerned that the transmission could shift into reverse istead of 6th, and then say that you know that you can't shift into reverse while in forward motion? At any rate, you are correct that the transmssion can't be shifted into reverse if the car is moving forward at any speed above about 5MPH, maybe less. Reverse is NOT synchronized.

Follow the TSB advice.

Actually, Reverse is synchronized, But you still need to be stopped before selecting it.

Go to the dealership... also, try pushing down on the shifter and then putting it in reverse.. it might be as simple as that

If your handy with hand tools, you can do it. The hardest part is removing the plastic lock ring that secures the inner shift boot. I'd go to your dealer and get a copy of the service bulletin. It descibes the repair procedure in depth.

If not, the dealer will be able to do it.

While stopped, shift into fifth gear, release the clutch, depress the clutch, then push down on the lever and shift into reverse. Betcha that works.
