Default Pulsating idle?

I have about 16K miles on my S2000, no problems ever. However, when I tried to start the car this Saturday, I had to hold the start button down for quite a while before it will turn over and start. The battery sounded like it was about to die while it was cranking -- I'll get that checked.

But that was not the main question. Once the car started, I noticed that the engine would pulse while idling. The speed would go up to 3K, then drop back to 1.5K, then go back up to 3K, etc. The pulse is about the clock's tick-tock, up/down/up/down. Has anyone experience this? After about half a minute of this, I took the car out to warm it up and it drove normally. The temperature that day is "comfortable" in short sleeves in California, not cold.

After that the car would start and run perfectly. Any ideas? Thanks.

I had something similar. It pulsated for about 2 weeks until the engine warmed up. After 2 weeks, I got a P1519 IAC valve code. It went for another two weeks, progressively getting worse. I traced it to a bum CPU; Honda agreed and replaced it under warranty.

Start your car when the engine is cool. Do you hear what sounds like a vacuum start and then immediately shut off? If so, that is the first symptom I noticed.

Take it in. It's free.

Just noticed you were in the bay area. What part? I might be able to stop by and take a look see.

That vacuum noise is normal. It's the antilock brakes being "charged" up or so I was told by Honda service.
