Default Purchasing an Ap2 tranny...what to look for?

Hi gentlemen...I'll try to explain this as clear as possible. My Ap1 tranny is on it's way out and I located an Ap2 tranny on Craigslist. This is the email I recieved from him...

"i worked at a dealership and it was installed for a customer. customer put about 500 miles on it and came back and said it was making noise. after numerous test drives our district manger got involved and said he couldn't hear any noise and to just order a new one. installed that one and this one was never called back for warranty"

Now of course I'm skeptical about everything for sale on CL lol. I've been a D/B/H series guy since the 90s so I'm new to the F-stuff and I need help on how to identify it's an AP2 and not an Ap1, if there's anyway at all from just looking at it. I first just want to make sure this isn't the original tranny that was pulled from the car. And being a replacement...it shouldn't have a vin# attatched correct? Any and all insight would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The trans should have a green metal plate attached with the VIN. An AP2 trans will have AP2 in the VIN itself.

green vin plate on the side of the bell housing. Should be able to run a vin trace on it and see what comes up. Like stated , if it is an AP2 trans, there will be (AP2) in the vin # its self.

Honda wont sell a manual trans from the dealer typically. You would literally have to buy all the pieces seperate and rebuild it.

The AP2 transmission has extra reinforcing/webbing that rides up on to the countershaft support.

Look closely...

AP2 trans on left.............................................. ...................AP1 trans on right
