Default putting top down problem!

i have noticed at night when it is cool or humid that when i go to put the top down it stops about 2-3 inches from where it should be. if this just because of mositure or what? why does it only happen at night? please help. also when it does do this i wanted to know is it ok to hit the top button and softly push the top down the couple of inches. i havn't done it yet because i don't want to damage anything.

This is my first winter with our MY2002, and I have noticed the same thing. I suspect that the roof material is a little stiff from the cold and does not fold up as well as in the warmer weather. You can gently press down on the retracted frame and it will go down a few more inches.

One of the top frame bows needs to fold properly or else the top sits a little high. Watch the inside of the top as it folds and you'll notice that one of the bows is supposed to fold as the top retracts. You're correct that it doesn't fold consistently when the temperature is low.

same problem in new orleans (where cold starts at 60 degrees)
noticed last night that after raising/lowering top couple of times (2-3x), top settled into a fully retracted position over a couple of miles.
guess I compressed the hinges and eventually the top followed.

Yup...this is common, normal, whatever... I find that it's necessary to clear the fabric from between the cross beams that are supposed to collapse, then collapse them together. I open the top ~1/2 way, then clear the fabric and collapse the cross beams together. That done, it folds just fine.

Mine does this frequently - I just got in the habit of stopping the top a foot away from "down" and pulling the rear cross-bar downward a few inches. Then finish lowering and the top folds all the way down. Now I can't brag about having "the fastest convertible top on the planet".

The top on my '02 does the same thing but I haven't experienced it as frequently as some of you describe. It will usually retract fully with a gentle push downward on the frame.
