Default Quick brake pad change query

I'm assuming my pads are dead because my brakes are squealing even when I'm not on the brakes.

1. Should I change both front and rear brake pads at the same time? The fronts are the ones making noise.

2. Do I need to bleed the brakes? My brakes aren't soft or mushy.

3. I have 60k miles. Do I need to have the caliper measured to see if it needs to be replaced?

Thanks s2ki.

1. Fronts and back wear at different rates. You can change them base on condition or convenience. I would do them on condition just because I don't mind working on the car often, unless they both need it soon.

2. How old is the fluid? You may need to bleed a little to get the new thicker pads to fit. Might want to consider a full flush if you haven't done one already.

3. I think you mean the rotor, should be fine at 60K.

1. Brake pads are a very important safety part of your car and cheap. I would change them all at the same time.

2. With 60k miles on the ODO, it would be a very good idea.

3. I think you ment rotors. Getting them checked and turned is also very inexpensive, but only necessary if they are scraped. Calipers should be fine. Just check the piston seals.

not to mention is you don't change the rears but change the front you upset the braking balance of the car.... bad..... thats a perfomance issue as well as a safety issue....

Braking balance? Pads have the same bite if they are at 50% life or 90% life. If you are staying with the same type of pad then only replace them when they are toast.

In the case of the OP, I would only change out the fronts tho it wouldn't hurt to look at the rears just to see how much is really left.
