Default Quick engine mount question

Hi all, I've just received a replacement engine from a salvage dismantlers, engine arrived with the thread to one of the engine mounts snapped slightly on the block.
After speaking with the mechanics from the company they said (as they would) its normal for used S2000 engines to have the crack on the thread - and that its nothing to worry about as there are 3 other mounting points.
I'm not having that, I was also pretty surprised at the state of the bottom end being a 30k mileage car - the sealant between the two blocks also looks fresh

The engine is being returned for a refund which they have hesitantly agreed to.

Just for future reference, is the damage serious?

Engine was taken from 2005 car with 38k miles.

I don't believe that is where the motor mount, mounts to. That thread should be a mounting point of the thermostat housing. The motor mounts threads are the ones right above the oil pan that are completely vertical to the engine and parallel to one another. Hope this helps

Possibly, my first thought was thats a lot of pressure on a not particularly reinforced part of the engine.

Is the damage to this thread serious/ could it develop or worsen once fitted? - Just trying to gauge whether its normal for it to be there on a used engine, to me if the thread snaps it could take a chunk of the block with it.

If it's not a motor mount, then I personally would be even MORE suspicious as to why it would be broken. And I wouldn't want a block with a broken motor mount either. So I think you're making the safe choice by returning it.

That's not a motor mount point and the crack ALMOST looks like casting flash. Additionally, this motor looks very weather beaten for a 30k mile engine. My motor at 75K didn't look like that and it's daily driven/hasn't been washed.

Casting flash?

The motor is in the UK so weather does take its toll on cars over here. But still 38k miles doesn't seem right.

The damage isn't repairable is it?

try to thread a bolt into it. see if the bolt holds. Remember this motor came out of a smashed car. The smash was big enough to write off the car. Also it could have been sitting out side for a while, in the scrap yard

That's not a motor mount point. And I have a 120k motor that sees PA winters and salt and it's cleaner than that. Seems odd it's that weathered.

That is the rear mounting hole for the water pump housing.

I would check the other 4 holes by the front of the engine that the water pump housing also bolts to.

If its surface damage, it wont be an issue.
