If you turned the car completely on it's right side, I'll bet you could get all 3 qts in no problem, maybe even a 4th. BUT, I wouldn't drive beyond the end of your driveway like that.

Actually the specific numbers are:

1.56 US Quarts for fluid change
1.71 US Quarts for overhaul

However if you look at where the drain plug is.....you can jack the car one way opr the other (sorry forget which and to drunk to care) and get the extra half quart in. So the correct answer is 2 quarts max.

Correct me if I'm wrong XV.......3 quarts?? PM me an please explain why you have not taken my place as Forum Moderator on this board!!!! I gave Shelli specific instructions (LOL)!

Utah, old buddy, the 3 qts thing was a bit of a "tongue in cheek" (sarcasm) thing. I have actually put all 2 liters in when the car was jacked up quite high from the driver's side. I was just being a bit of an ass when I said he could get all 3 qts in if the car was completely turned onto its side.
-PM coming.

By lifting the back of the car up or tilting it over on the passenger side, you could easily put in 2 qts. of MTF without spilling a drop.

I've been using 2 qts. for about a year now.

The official capacity is 1.6 quarts according to my owner's manual. I agree that if you want to tilt the car you can get more in, but if you lower it down before putting the fill plug in 0.4 quarts will spill out and that's what I was addressing.

The "proper" fill is when the car is on the level with the fill plug OFF and you don't get anymore fluid coming out. That would be about 1.5x qts.
It has also been said that due to the high level of the tranny oil pick up tube, a slight overfill of about 200cc is a good thing. I'm not so sure a 450cc overfill is.
