Default Radiator Leaking

I have an 00 and I started smelling radiator fluid under the hood. When I looked, I saw a leak behind the opening where you insert the radiator fluid. I was wondering if all the radiators are interchangable in the S2k. Im not sure if they did any upgrades on them. My car has 80k miles. Seems a bit early for a radiator to start leaking...Thanks

Same part number for an '03 radiator as it is for an '05. You can't use an '06+ as the fan switch bung changed.

great.. thanks.. just wanted to make sure just incase they made some improvements. How long do radiators normally last. I never have tracked the car. Also, the fluid change is at 100 k right??

S2000s produced from 2000 until some time in 2002 came from the factory with the green fluid, which isn't the magical +100k-lasting awesome blue stuff that came with S2000s produced from some arbitrary point in 2002 and up.

So, your fluid change might have been before that, but I doubt it was the fluid that caused the leak.

It sounds like the leak is coming from the tank, which is made of plastic. Unfortunately, a property of plastic is that it does get brittle as it is heat cycled over time. Yours is the second rad that I've heard of where the tank cracked at that age/milage. Your new warranty replacement should last about as long.

A Koyo is all metal, and will likely last a lifetime.

My OEM one would be the other one on your list, I suppose? Mine went to 120k+ miles before splitting between the cooling element and top tank.

The recommended service interval for our model year is 75k according to the manual. I did service then and switched to the Type II stuff, which is the 10 year juice. Ofcourse had to replace it again when I swapped radiators. So I'm good til 220ish.
