Default random 2nd and 3rd grind.

i was racing my buddy in his full bolt on rsx type s, tuned on aem ems. i ran him 3 times from a 30 mph roll and my car didnt make any grind of clunks(btw i was winning). then i slow down and go from 3rd to 2nd gear and rev match a get a massive gear grind!?!?!?! and then 2nd and 3rd gear felt very notchy and almost grinding again. i parked the car for about an hour then took it out and every single gear feels perfectley fine. im wondering if that grind is something i should worry about or not. i have 66k miles on stock clutch and pressure plate. i have aem v2 in take, test pipe, giles tune, and greddy single exhaust. i dont konw what this could be though? could it possibly be my pressure plate that didnt release all the way? i know sometimes when i go from 3rd to 2nd rev match and then decel to 2500rpm and push in the clutch it doesnt disengage 90 percent of the time but will if i push the clutch in in a 3k all the time. im just trying to figure this out...thanks guys, all opinions help.

if you dont have the clutch all the way in the s2k gives the nastiest grind sound ever, happened to me before
could just be that you did that maybe?

I have found the S2k trans to be quite finicky as well... Every now and then i will get a grind going into second from first, i think it's when im being lazy and not putting the clutch to the floor. In my Subaru, it doesnt mind if you dont completely depress the pedal. Just have to pay more attention in the Honda. I have read that you also need to be very precise with how you move the shifter itself, since the gates separating the gears are really narrow. Mine is an early AP1 fwiw

All year s2k trannys are little bitches ! Ive found this out over the years working at the dealership . They tend to grind when they are hot more so than when cold . I would just change the mtf . That will help alot .

I've experienced this and even when I press the clutch all the way in. I cannot figure it out, it's random and cannot be regularly duplicated.

+1

2007, 21K miles, problem since new, and sometimes when it happens I have the presence of mind to hold my foot still and determine where the pedal is -- usually almost to the floor. Synchros proabably look like a carbide burr by now.

Synchros could be showing signs of break in Personally I had my tranny gone through by a performance place when I first picked it up.It had a pretty nice grind every once in a while and it was mainly just shifter position vs clutch vs tranny temp. Like the others said the S2k trans has a mind of its own. specially if your trying to do some crazy fast shifting. Def look into the mtf thought. Helped mine out tons.

actually for the AP1 there is a service bulletin that says 2nd gear will grind at high rpms sometimes and theres a fix for it but you have to replace the 2nd and 3rd gears along with a little plastic clip last time i looked i think parts alone were almost $1000 not including labor check the service bulletin section for more info
