Default Random check engine light

Went to auotoze & they say it’s a cylinder 1 misfire &
suggest replacement of Variable Valve Timing solenoid for $700 parts & labor. Car drives perfecting fine vtec & all. Mind you this is a rebuilt title S with 150k+ miles. Was planning on selling it with a new job starting soon. I’m suspicious of shops to begin with. Could It’d be spark plug? Or coil pack? Car is worth
$5k max so I have a hard time spending roughly 1/5 its worh on this. Any suggestions?

The fact they told you it is a variable valve timing solenoid tells me they know nothing, there is no such part by that name. If they mean the vtec solenoid valve that won't cause a misfire on one cylinder. It is almost always gong to be a fuel injector or coil pack, I would double check the spark plugs to make sure they aren't oil soaked. If you don't want to spend too much money reset it and drive it and see if it continues to crop up.
