Default Rattle after Soft Top Replacement

And I tried so hard to be careful during the marathon soft top replacement, but i got careless towards the end and ended up dropping some small screws down a small gap behind the door jams (yes, on both sides).

Now I have a wicked rattle and no apparent means of removing the offending little buggers. They sound like they're down below the door jam (or in front of the rear wheel arch). I will build statues in honour of anyone who can suggest a way of getting at them. And yes, completely avoidable if I'd been more careful.

"Learning the hard way, since 1973."

Cheers guys

Hmm, small magnet on a stick? If they're at all accessible, you should be able to get them out. If they're not magnetic, maybe gum on a stick.

The screws, IIRC are NOT magnetic. lol. I dropped exactly two as well! on the same side though. I dont hear mine rattling though, so I suppose it already fell out somehow.

Get a couple of buddies to flip & shake

Give the magnet snake a shot, can't hurt. You might even find some other goodies in there.

lol... i had the same problem. It's pretty much impossible to get it out with a magnetic stick. I've tried everything and eventually gave up. Lucky for me, they seemed to find a nice tight place to sit in and I haven't heard from them for a about good year. Goodluck

After you drilled out the rivets in the crossbar, did you blow the old rivets out of the crossbar tube? If not, they may be what you are hearing.

Yeah...to save 0.00000001oz Honda made them out of aluminum...sadists.

Luckily my dropped screw also found a snug place in the rocker panel to sit.

It's definitely not the rivets, at that stage of the job I was still being careful, sadly the same couldn't be said 8 hours on.

I'll give the gum-stick a try but as someone said, it's tight as a fly's chuffer down there.

I'll take it to my local garage and get it up on the skids, maybe I'll be able to find a way in from underneath.

Thanks for the suggestions though guys.

didn't do the soft top change but i did have to move the rear tray for the fuel pump install. i ended up losing one of the bump stop screws down the driver side. trying to fish it out i came up with all kinds of junk (pens, forks, change, paper, hair clips, and even a social security card). i have no idea how previous owners could have gotten all this crap in there...

you could try pulling the plugs from the rocker underneath and see if you can get them from there
