Default Rattle coming for Transmission/Shifter

Hi, I'm trying to figure out what is causing the rattle in my car. The sound is like a loose pan and the sound seems to be coming from the shifter or transmission. It occurs at all speeds but generally is louder and rattles faster the faster i am going regardless of rpm and gear i am in. I lifted the car and i can somewhat replicate the noise by banging on this part of the transmission. Not sure how common this is or how serious this may be. any advice on a possible solution?

It might actually be the heat shield on the cat...if you still have the OEM cat and the heat shield surrounding it. Could also be the comb within the cat having broken loose. Both are 'easy' fixes.

I actually thought it was the cat to begin with but I can't hear anything when I hit it? Also, what is the heat shield? When I looked underneath, all I can see is like a flexible wrap on the undercarriage. Sorry if these are dumb questions. Don't have much experience fixing cars.

could it be the shift fork rattling? there's a thread that talks about a noise coming from a similar area. they even have a video demonstrating that noise.

Wow, I am pretty sure it is the shift fork now. It sounds exactly like that. Just wondering, is something that I should replace right away? I'm not sure if I want to go through the effort of having to take out the transmission but I guess if it has to be done then I don't have another choice.

I wouldn't worry too much about removing the tranny from this car. I've done a few clutches on FWD cars, and I gotta say it looks like a cake walk in comparison. Just read the clutch change DIY, get some friends over, buy some beer and pizza and have fun with it.

Here's the clutch DIY - https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/779...h-install-diy/

I'm about to undertake this as well, as I need a new clutch. Good luck!
