Default Rattling cat problem!

Hi guys

I have the rattling cat problem at 24000 km also! My car is stock and yet Honda refused to replace the part. They say it`s because of the solvents that are used in gas in Turkey. If they are importing and selling the cars in Turkey, and if they don`t say anything about this to us when they are selling the cars then they shouldn`t be able to say that it`s out of warranty because of bad lead when it`s time to replace the part!

Do you think that they have the right not to replace the cat? Is there anything I can do other than writing an e-mail to Honda Japan?

Thank you... hope your cat goes a long way...

Are you sure it's the cat? Maybe it's a heatshield.

I take the car to a Honda dealer and they told me that the cat needs to change. They didn`t take it out and looked at it though, they just listen to the sound... The price is something like 2500$ here so it`s an expensive part and I don`t want to pay for smt that I didn`t brake... it sucks

Before you just take their word for it and go and hand them over that kind of money, you should jack up the car and go under there yourself and give the cat a few good thumps to see if anything is loose in there. If the internal material has come apart, you should hear it when you shake it with your hand.

Also if any large pieces have come loose, at some point it should affect if not break your secondary 02.
Been there, done that.

Been here, done this. I had this exact same problem about a month ago. I positively identified the problem as the cat breaking apart and then breaking the secondary O2 sensor. The problem triggered a CEL, that's how I found out.

Don't get it from the Honda dealer. It's really easy and cheap to do yourself. I did it in my drivewa in about an hour. You can get O2 sensors online for cheap(er), and I got a mildly used cat from the For Sale forum. The whole thing cost me like $300. Not bad compared to $2500.

I have one more question. Since Honda will probably not gonna replace my cat, I`m thinking of buyin an aftermarket cat. Which brand would you suggest?

What do you think about magnaflow 43000 series? Their price is reasonable, so any body tried those?

Thx

I have done quite a bit of research on aftermarket cats. As well as has Brian who makes the Ultralites. There are only 2 cats to get.

One, as someone said, a slightly used stock one or the 4" Random Technologies cat.

Our cat is apparently the highest flowing cat OEM out there and outflows any of the aftermarket cats except the Random Technologies.

I sent my cat to Random to be flowed and to be used as a template for their manufacturing and they said the stock cat outflowed their 3" version and it took making theirs 4" to get enough flow differential to even offer one on the market.

What does Brian use on the Ultralites? Stock cats. He says it isn't worth the difference in price.
