Default Rear Defogger Switch MOD

Hi all

Here's my situation, I am going to replace my AP1 plastic window soft top with a glass window soft top.
I am also going to purchase the '06 center console from hardtopguy because it already has the defrost switch built-in (and looks better than the AP1 stock)

What modification do I need to get the switch from the '06 center console to plug in to the already present harness in my AP1.

Reviving this thread if possible. Definitely trying to do this for my AP1. Did anyone come up with this solution after the hardtopguy got discontinued?

Putting some detail like your model year and location in your signature would help (rather than make us look it up)... AP1 spans a lot of years especially in the non-US market where most of them had that engine.

Do ANY of the plastic rear window cars have a rear defogger? Dealer option? Glass window (and defogger) became standard on US/CDN cars in 2002. According to my 2006 owners manual the rear defogger is on a 15 minute timer. Not sure if the timer is in the switch or relay or somewhere else. Consult the wiring diagrams:

The thread is titled as a "mod." Do you even have this switch? Maybe a blank plate?

My bad. New here. I proudly own a US model 2001 AP1 S2k that I picked up recently.

The car came with the plastic rear window. I am already planning on upgrading the soft top to convert it into a glass rear window with a defroster (from the NE and would love to drive it during some cooler weather). Probably not necessary, but definitely a want and neat to have.

I would like to see if I am able to get a the defroster button and have it all hooked up like the generation after it. (either on the dash or center console). I have been looking to upgrade the center console over to the 2006 AP2 since it has the rear defroster button already incorporated (looks cleaner than the AP1 too). I have seen another thread that someone has done it with the AP1 center console with buttons that replaces over coin tray. I could go that route. Checking out if anyone has done this.

Chuck has been here long enough to know the plastic windows cars had a specific defrost harness. a rare one at that. 99-01 have a specific harness, 02-05 another one and 06-09 another. I have the buttons in the my ap1 center and have yet to be able to find the harness to make my defrost on my hardtop work. if you have an 06 up harness and a/or center console/button you can connect it but you will have to make your own conversion harness to tap power from the green plug near your shifter that has been taped off.(that was intended to be used with the 99-01 defrost button) there is another connector in the back that has been taped off near your gas filler neck in the covered area between the trunk and the trim behind the drivers seat.
